Happy weekend! Sharing a little bit of my heart and passion for newborn photography tonight:
I strive for our clients to have photos that are timeless and that will be cherished forever. As a wedding photographer, I feel like we have this down. As a newborn photographer, I’m always questioning what that means. As we started taking on newborns over this past year, I am constantly questioning and comparing to other photographers. It’s a niche I once said Story Told would never touch because there are so many photographers out there making “perfect” newborn photos. Our niche was weddings, but as more and more of our clients made the request, we decided to take the plunge and approach newborn photography like we do wedding photography... our style is a little mix of documentary and easy, natural posing.
Recently, I came across a photographer who said she spends hours upon hours editing out little flaky newborn skin and photoshopping babies into positions for those “perfect” photos. I couldn't help but wonder… why?
I’ve decided we are doing things a little differently… and really embracing the details and lack of posing some may see as flaws, but we see as perfections. There is something to be said for leaving those little pieces untouched. I want Story Told to be known for delivering authentic newborn images and I’m so happy you all are not only welcoming this idea, but embracing, preferring, and asking for the realness of it.
I’m asking parents what photos they would you love to be able to show their daughter or son when they are grown. For this shoot, we love that McKenzie pulled out her wedding dress and we incorporated it to make images that are not only beautiful, even a little whimsical, but also so personal. No studio set up, all pieces are your own, and that makes it all so much more intimate.
McKenzie and Andrew thank you, thank you, thank you for trusting us with Eliana’s tiny little details and capturing all the love you hold for your little girl. We are so happy for you and hope you love these images as much as we do! <3
