Today I am sharing photos from sweet little Evangeline's baptism at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Cathedral - our church!
I absolutely loved getting to capture this special moment in Evangeline's life - her new life in Christ. This little gal had so much support present from the church, family, and friends - everyone who will be there to encourage her in her faith in Christ Jesus.
In the Orthodox church, immediately following baptism, the sacrament of chrismation takes place. This is where the priest (the Bishop in Miss Evangeline's case) annoints the body with Holy Oil, which is blessed, as a sign of consecration and strength. Chrismasion is a reminder that you blessed by the Spirit and a valuable member of the Church. Although she is just a baby, there is never a time when she is not a part of God's people.
The ceremony and meaning behind it was so beautiful and moving. If you'd like to learn more about the sacraments, you can do so here.
What was even more special about this ceremony is that Evangeline was able to have the Bishop and her father administer these sacraments.
Father Dean helped administer the sacrament of marriage when we got married! Father Dean and Presbytera, you will surely be missed here in Columbus. Thank you for your service here and best wishes as you continue your service in Pittsburg!
